Dear Department of Revenue,
On 06/27/2012, I recieved a notice that I owed $21 on my taxes due to an underpayment because of an error I made in filing. I am not sure I filed it wrong as you say, but I will believe it and accept paying $21. That is not my complaint.
My complaint is why I need to pay a penalty and interest on the late fee. I called this morning and was told that [fee] was because I did not pay by the due date of April 17. However, it does not seem fair that I should pay a late fee on money that I did not know I owed. This was the first notice I received.
I am paying the full amount due of $22.56, but am requesting a refund of $1.56, which I believe was unfairly charged.
I was told to submit this letter with my payment.
Thank you,
taxpayer yoshida
Also, I never received a reply to the letter I submitted with my taxes and original payment back in February. Could I please have a response sent with my refund?
