8 hours. this saturday. begins at 1pm, ends at 9pm.
jerry leiber (right), mike stoller (left) & elvis look over jailhouse rock
jerry leiber has been in the news much this week. he passed away at the age of 78. along with jerry ragovoy a couple months ago, the music world has lost two mega-hit songwriters recently. leiber was a lyricist who worked with mike stoller to create many early rock standards. if not for this songwriting duo elvis presley would never have been the king. rip - jerry leiber. this week's rabble rouser hour will feature a good many of his tunes.
as i played one track, a couple weeks ago on the first anniversary of abbey lincoln's death, i will present max roach's "percussion: bitter sweet" in it's entirety. celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of this rabble rousing staple in a progressive civil rights conscious world! also, this coincidentally brings eric dolphy in as a sideman on an album for the second week in a row. enjoy.
for fans of local northwest music, i got treats as usual. with the juniper jam music festival coming up sept 3 in enterprise, i will showcase the musicians playing there.
and, the biggest news of the month! the west memphis three have been released!!!!!!!!! lots of musicians and actors (e.g., johnny depp & eddie vedder) have spent millions of dollars to secure the wm3 release. after 18 years, justice has been done finally (in this case). i will feature many of the songs that have been written and recorded in their support!
and don't think that's all i have in store for ya?
yocheckira! let's rock! all day fun! saturday 1pm - 9pm. http://cast.eou.edu
