new year's resolutions!

1 purchase nothing that comes in plastic or styrofoam containers
2 carrying my own silverware & chopsticks & to go containers to restaurants
3 do not take anything that comes in unnecessary packaging
4 one load of laundry per week, no dryers
5 throw out 4 or less bags (grocery bag size) of trash in the calendar year
6 not buy more than 12 newly made products during the year (with the exception
of vinyl records or handmade cds by local bands and the exception of food, in case you count that as a product.)
7 never voting for another republican or democrat, period.
8 not putting gas in my car until march 21 (that would be first day of spring
& exactly 3 months since the last time)

#8 seems rough, but doable. #7 is a foregone conclusion & a cheapo resolution. #6 is probably going to be the hardest to interpret, much less pull off. #5 & #4 are no big deal, i already do that as it is. #3 is somewhat vague, but not too difficult to pull off. #2 is going to be funny the first time i walk into a restaurant. hell, it'll be funny the fiftieth time i walk into a restaurant.
#1 is, of course, #1. i'd rather eat that crap than try to throw it away.

that’s my contribution to the world in 2013. and i know it’s not enough. but i’m trying my godamnedest to care and be responsible. so let me work on this and i’ll get back with even better goals in 2014.
