Touring Duo Originated at EOFF in La Grande

Back in November, a very few privy people seemed to even notice that Psycho Adorable made tour stops in Eastern Oregon.  On one hand, it seemed a fly by night pseudo-secret invasion.  The promotion of the tour seemed pretty well honed in on the target demographics. On the other hand, it was the finale of a long trek by a sort of overnight sensation.  Maybe even a one-off treat for the lucky of a project that never continues? Only time will tell, but for now, we obviously have two amazing talents that originate from the northwest (mostly) who met and conceived a touring act right here at the 2013 Eastern Oregon Film Fest.

Grandma Kelsey and Lionsweb, who both performed at last year’s film fest, traveled to town discussing their musical passions at length and ultimately planned a Psycho Adorable tour.  The soft, sometime strained voices from both of these ladies, accompanies their relatively new instrumental crafts.  They are youngun’s still, but carry the wisdom and experience of elders.  The subsequent tour began at the Crux in Boise last August and logged 15,000 miles, through 90% of the states and provinces over ten weeks ending on back in Boise.  No doubt, the duo was very road weary by the early November trek through Eastern Oregon.
Kelsey says she got a taste of performance experience in first grade by calling her local radio station and singing “I Will Survive.”  That was a while ago, but still recent memory. It would be stretching it if she is even old enough to be a college graduate yet, though her voice approaches the conviction of long standing blues singers.  Kelsey’s gone so far, so fast, to have quickly grown into an established role in the Boise music scene and various festivals around the region.
She is currently scoring two films, both to be shot in Boise this summer. As she describes her varied tasks, “One is about the first female serial killer in the U.S. and the other is about a man who has multiple personalities.”  Surely Kelsey can get into such moods with her guitar.  Her next project will then tackle writing and recording a new album in the southwest.  “I’ve been enjoying applying my music to other environments, whether it’s a film, or a ballet, or even just over the speakers in a local restaurant, it’s cool to see how my work is soluble…or how it floats.”  And it does float!  The softest of her sounds seem to fill the most space.
It should be of no surprise that Kelsey loves such types of small communities as La Grande, which give that personable feel within craftily built structures, in confined borders tacked together by fertile farmlands.  La Grande certainly has that perfect living to afford someone like Kelsey that at-home touch.  Hers has been somewhat of a heart-felt education, living in a barn with animals among her siblings.
La Grande was first graced with Kelsey after a northwest tour with curator Gregory “Spacewolf” Rawlins last year.  She was then invited to Eastern Oregon Film Fest to play before the final night feature at the Granada.  Then, the collaboration of the dynamic duo Psycho Adorable began.

It is not easy to determine which one is psycho and which one is adorable. Bronwyn (aka Lionsweb) has a forceful power bellowing from within and her own unique background of learning to play the piano only after graduating in theatre from Boise State a couple of years ago, where she originally moved from the deep south of Alabama.  Everything about the collaboration was perfect, “Make no mistake, we were instantly Thelma and Louise.  FOR REAL.  You know the end of that movie where they drive off the cliff in a screaming police chase?  Yes, for one year now, its been like that,” as Kelsey so vividly reveals.
Whether these two adorable psychos will come together again, we can only hope. But not to worry, the two will be performing similar adventures in the region. To start with, Grandma Kelsey will be right back in La Grande at the Granada preceding the Saturday night feature Doomsdays. What will be born out of Kelsey’s next trip to town for the festival?
